Tucker Creek Walking Trail
Want to combine some exercise with spying on the neighbors? Take an urban trail walk. These paved trails run through neighborhoods, usually along the fenced in backyards, which is the perfect opportunity to overhear some juicy conversations or catch flickering glimpses of suburban inhabitants in their natural habitat in the spaces between the slats. The same rules of hiking apply. Do not disturb. When the smell of grilling becomes too overpowering, plan a stop at a local café on the way home.
Cadron Settlement Park
Lucy called Charlie Brown a blockhead and once you read the sign at Cadron Settlement Park in front of the reconstructed blockhouse, that’s the voice you will keep hearing in your head. Listen to it as you wander around the hiking trails or think about it as you sit at a picnic table and study the reconstructed building. The only way to get it out of your mind is to take the trail next to the Arkansas River and let the sound of the water wash it away.
Some bodies of water are famous for sunken ships, or hidden treasure, others for the way they came into being when a dam went in. Lake Conway is a legend for a great fishing spot. It’s easy to see why.
The lake is riddled with trees, which makes high speed impossible, but a fish rich environment an absolute. Get a license and to the shores to catch your limit.
